Determine what configuration of heating boiler you need
Central Heating systems come in various configurations. Most of them consist of a set of heating central heating radiators, a gas boiler and copper pipework.
Whilst we need heating systems air conditioners are not needed in the United Kingdom and Europe because of the average temperature throughout the year. Many of us find proper heating a necessity; as a result most of the new homes being constructed today are built with a Central Heating System.
Heating is vital, especially as wintertime is fast approaching. Heating your home provides a relaxing and cosy atmosphere. Your Central Heating System needs to be reliable. You should feel that your Central Heating System is safe, easy to use and long lasting.
Sealed and vented or pumped systems are the two major types of Central Heating Systems available.
Pumped or vented Central Heating systems are most popularly used. A pumped/vented Central Heating System includes components known as a feed and expansion tank to allow for the expansion of water as it is heated in the radiators. Hot water from the storage tank supplies your kitchen and bath while also heating up the central heating radiators. The tank makes way for any water expansion that is caused by the heating process. The tank is positioned at the point of maximum height, usually in the attic area to create water pressure. It not only heats the house, but also supplies hot water.
Many homes feature a pumped/vented Gas Central Heating System, particularly the ones constructed several year ago.
A slightly newer heating boiler is sealed heating system and this is the preferred central heating system in newer properties. As the name suggests, sealed system is a closed system; no tank is required in this system. The attic has no tanks or piping, the system is completely enclosed and locked, it’s not ventilated, and that has its advantages:.
- Frozen attic pipes are no longer a problem.
- There won’t be any repair work on the tank or pipes which will be in the attic for a pumped/vented system.
- The chance of a leaking water tank is all together missing.
- Reduced risk of air locks, corrosion and sludge as there isn’t a chance of air being drawn down into the system through open vents as the system is sealed.
- It is possible to flush out the system if required by using the mains water supply.
This heating system is self contained incorporating all the safety devices and other important controls. The water for the system is provided directly from the main water pipe of the house. It is plumbed straight into the main water supply.
A pressure vessel containing tightly packed gas can allow a sealed system to have normal fluctuations of pressure; a diaphragm serves as a barrier between the gas and water in the sealed system. If the pressure becomes too high in a sealed Central Heating System; a safety valve will allow water to escape from the system and if the pressure drops too low a valve will open to refill the system with water.
As compared to other heating systems, Central Heating systems are cheaper to run. Moreover, they offer all kinds of control, which are normally not found in other heating systems giving you a more enjoyable environment.
